Mixed Reactions Follow FG’s Approval of Canaanland Airstrip
Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (also known as Winners Chapel), announced on Sunday that the Federal Government has granted permission for the construction of an airstrip at Faith Tabernacle in Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State.
Oyedepo explained that the airstrip would enable him to fly directly from the church grounds, avoiding the need to travel to the airport.
“The Federal Government has approved an airstrip for Canaanland. I’ll no longer need to take a helicopter to the airport. I can depart from here to my destination, and church members who own planes will also have a place to land and park,” Oyedepo said.
The announcement has sparked a range of reactions on social media, with some Nigerians questioning the government’s decision. One user, @Atandalukman_, asked, “Why would the government allow an airstrip in a church? Who is he?” Another user, @ChrisEjiofor7, remarked, “This is like heaven on Earth; great men of God now have every luxury.”
Concerns were also raised about the effect on religious values. User @Stanzigar commented, “These pastors are distorting Christian values. Jesus lived as a servant, while other religious figures came from wealth.”
On the other hand, some individuals supported the project. @_klassy tweeted, “If this airstrip complies with regulations and benefits the community, then it’s fine. Not only pastors enjoy wealth—people just focus on them more.”
In a more humorous take, @TheUntamable1 joked, “What’s needed to have a private airstrip? I’m dreaming of that too! Congrats, Papa. I’ve always imagined building a mini city with my billionaire friends, complete with our own private airstrip.”
