Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has cast doubt on extending his contract with the club, stating it is “unlikely” that an agreement will be reached.
As the 32-year-old enters the final six months of his current deal, he is now free to negotiate with clubs outside of England for a potential transfer once his contract expires this summer.
Salah, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017, has continued to be a key figure for the club. This season, he has scored 20 goals in all competitions, playing a vital role in Liverpool securing their place in the Premier League and Champions League. He currently leads the Premier League’s top scorers with 17 goals, three ahead of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
When asked if this would be his final season at Anfield, Salah responded: “So far, it’s been that way, six months to go.” He continued, “There are no signs of my staying here, it seems we will not settle, but we will just have to wait and see.”
Salah has spoken multiple times about his future, with similar sentiments expressed in recent months. Last September, following Liverpool’s victory over Manchester United, Salah mentioned he played the match as if it were his last at Old Trafford. He echoed those words during the team’s win against Manchester City the following month.
In addition to Salah’s uncertain future, other key players in Liverpool, including captains Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, also see their contracts expiring at the end of this season. Alexander-Arnold has been the subject of transfer speculation, with Real Madrid reportedly interested in securing his signature.
