Monday Okpebholo has officially assumed office as the Governor of Edo State, following a swearing-in ceremony held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. His deputy, Dennis Idahosa, was also sworn in alongside him. The event, which marked the beginning of a new administration, was overseen by the Chief Justice of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa.
Okpebholo and Idahosa both took the oath to uphold the Nigerian Constitution and to work towards improving the lives of the people of Edo State. In his address, Governor Okpebholo expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to make significant strides in advancing the state’s development.
However, the ceremony was notably marked by the absence of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki, who did not attend to formally hand over power to his successor. This absence has raised questions and added an unusual dimension to the otherwise smooth transition of leadership.
