The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a warehouse belonging to Dee-Lite IMPEX Distribution Co. Ltd in Sokoto State after uncovering significant regulatory breaches.
In a statement released on Monday, the agency revealed that the warehouse, located on Coca-Cola Road off Western Bypass in Sokoto, was involved in selling 5,347 bags of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) imported under a processing permit directly to consumers as a finished product. This practice violates NAFDAC’s regulations, which restrict the quantity and usage of such substances.
Additionally, unregistered food items, including 193 cartons of Orange Fruity and 71 cartons of Toffeeman Coconut Bites, were seized during the inspection.
Further investigations extended to the Sokoto Old Market, where authorities discovered 235 bags of FUFENG MSG stored in various shops. These items were promptly placed on hold to prevent further distribution.
NAFDAC disclosed that a representative of the company has been arrested and is undergoing interrogation as the agency pursues legal and regulatory actions.
This incident highlights the agency’s commitment to ensuring food safety and compliance with regulatory standards across Nigeria.
