Italy produced an emphatic 4-1 victory over Israel in the Nations League, with Giovanni Di Lorenzo stealing the show by netting twice, alongside goals from Mateo Retegui and Davide Frattesi. The win saw the Azzurri return to the top of their group.

After a 2-2 draw with Belgium in their previous match, which ended their perfect record, Italy made several changes due to Lorenzo Pellegrini’s suspension, introducing Giacomo Raspadori, Guglielmo Vicario, and Nicolò Fagioli into the starting lineup. Israel, missing key players like Manor Solomon and Omri Gandelman, had been struggling at the bottom of the group but had managed to score in every game so far.

Match Highlights

Oscar Gloukh came close early for Israel, firing wide after capitalizing on a Fagioli mistake. Italy responded with several chances, including a near miss from Mateo Retegui, who was denied by Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Glazer. Italy dominated with intricate passing, but Glazer kept the score level with crucial saves.

Italy finally broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when Retegui converted a penalty, awarded after Sandro Tonali was fouled in the box. Retegui calmly chipped the ball into the top corner for his second consecutive Nations League goal.

In the second half, Di Lorenzo doubled Italy’s lead in the 54th minute with a well-placed header from a Raspadori free-kick, marking his first international goal since 2022.

Israel pulled one back in the 66th minute when Mohammad Abu Fani curled a corner directly into the net, with Vicario protesting a foul that was not given after VAR review.

However, Italy restored their two-goal advantage just six minutes later, as Frattesi finished off a slick move involving Federico Dimarco. Di Lorenzo capped off the night in the 79th minute, completing his brace after a brilliant assist from Daniel Maldini, who made his own piece of history by becoming the third generation of his family to represent Italy.

Final Score:

Italy 4-1 Israel
Retegui (pen) 41′, Di Lorenzo 54′, 79′, Frattesi 72′
Abu Fani 66′

Italy’s victory further solidified their position at the top of the Nations League group, with Israel struggling at the bottom despite their consistent goal-scoring record.
