Global streaming giant Netflix has denied reports suggesting it plans to exit Nigeria, reaffirming its dedication to supporting the country’s creative economy.
Responding to unverified rumors that sparked concern among stakeholders, Netflix, through its public relations agency Hill & Knowlton Strategies, clarified its position.
Edafe Onoriode, the Group Account Director, emphasized Netflix’s ongoing investment in Nigerian storytelling. “We are not exiting Nigeria. We will continue to invest in Nigerian stories to delight our members,” Onoriode said.
The rumors gained traction following reports attributed to prominent Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, who was quoted as stating that Netflix had canceled multiple previously commissioned projects.
Despite these claims, Netflix reiterated its commitment to the Nigerian entertainment industry, where it has been active since its entry into the market in 2016.
This clarification underscores Netflix’s role as a key player in Nigeria’s creative sector, contributing significantly to local storytelling and economic development.
