President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to reject distractions that could hinder the nation’s progress and unity.
In a nationwide address delivered on Wednesday as part of his New Year message, the President emphasized that the country is on the right path to prosperity, even as some continue to view issues through the lenses of politics, ethnicity, region, and religion.
He urged citizens to embrace patriotism and strengthen their loyalty to the nation, stating:
“We are steadily building a prosperous Nigeria that works for everyone. Let us not allow a small segment of our society, which remains fixated on politics, ethnicity, regionalism, and religion, to distract us.
“To achieve our collective goals, we must strive to become better citizens and demonstrate unwavering allegiance to our beloved country.”
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s dedication to implementing transformative economic reforms aimed at achieving sustainable growth.
“Thank you for placing your trust in me as your president. I am deeply humbled by your confidence and remain committed to serving you diligently and wholeheartedly,” he said.
“We will continue enacting essential reforms to foster sustainable growth and prosperity. Achieving a one trillion-dollar economy is our shared goal, and I seek your cooperation and collaboration to make it a reality.
“As significant as our reforms are, they will yield desired results only when driven by shared values, unity, and unconditional love for Nigeria,” Tinubu added.
The President also reaffirmed his commitment to boosting food production, reducing inflation on food and medication to 15%, and fortifying the economy in 2025.
Tinubu highlighted key indicators of economic progress from 2024, including lower fuel prices, a stronger Naira, and rising foreign reserves, as signs of continued positive momentum in the coming year.
