The Nigerian Army has confirmed that its South-East Joint Task Force, also known as Operation Udoka, successfully engaged suspected terrorists in Abia State, killing four during a targeted clearance operation.
In a statement released on Monday evening, Lt. Col. Jonah Unuakhalu provided details of the operation, which took place in the forested area of Umuaku Isuochi, located within the Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to the statement, the operation began early on Monday morning with a raid on a suspected camp of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, situated along the Imo River. The military destroyed the camp and recovered arms, vehicles, and other materials from the site. Similar operations were also carried out in Imo State, where additional camps were raided and neutralized.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported a gunfight involving the Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade in Ohafia, Abia State, with gunmen in the Mbata, Umuchima village area of Isiala Ngwa North. The shootout reportedly intensified when over 15 military vehicles, including Hilux trucks and armoured personnel carriers, were deployed to the region for reinforcement at around 6 am.
The gunmen, believed to be stationed near a river along the boundary between Abia and Mbaise in Imo State, faced intense resistance as Nigerian Army troops secured key access points to the village and continued to engage them in the nearby bush.
