The Nigerian community in the United Kingdom has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the repatriation and funeral expenses of Ifeanyi Obi, a 34-year-old Nigerian man who was found dead in his Birmingham apartment on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
The campaign, initiated by friends and members of the Nigerians in Diaspora community, seeks to honor Obi’s final wish to return to his homeland in Ojoto, Anambra State, for a proper burial.
In a statement shared on social media, the group described Obi as a hardworking individual with big dreams and a positive impact on those around him.
“This was tragically cut short when he suddenly passed away,” the statement read. “We, his close friends, have set up this GoFundMe account to assist with repatriation costs and funeral arrangements in Ojoto, Anambra State. His last wish was to be with family in Nigeria, and although under different circumstances, we aim to fulfill this wish and give him a befitting farewell.”
The funds will cover transportation of Obi’s remains to Nigeria and ensure that his burial follows local customs.
Obi was remembered as a man of humor, selflessness, and generosity who left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. The community is appealing for support to honor his memory and provide closure to his grieving family.
