A Nigerian national, IK Egbor, who was on the run after escaping from a Haitian prison, has been arrested in the Dominican Republic. The arrest occurred after Egbor attempted to acquire a travel document under the false claim of having lost his identification. However, his immigration records raised red flags, revealing that he had no legal entry into the Dominican Republic.
Egbor is wanted by Haitian authorities for his involvement in human trafficking and smuggling operations. His extradition to Haiti is currently being processed in collaboration with Haitian officials, where he will face charges related to these crimes.
Reports indicate that Egbor had escaped from a Haitian prison during a mass breakout on March 3, 2024. Prior to his prison escape, he was arrested in 2022 at Toussaint Louverture International Airport for attempting to smuggle drugs in his stomach while en route to Paris.
An international alert and a joint investigation between Dominican and Haitian authorities led to Egbor’s capture. He is now awaiting extradition to Haiti, where he will be handed over to the Bureau for the Fight Against Drug Trafficking (BLTS/DCPJ) to face further legal action.
