Nigerian Labour Congress Demands Release Of Detained President
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) is demanding the release of their president, Joe Ajaero, who was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) while on his way to the UK. The NLC says Ajaero’s detention is illegal and an attack on workers’ rights.
The NLC is upset because Ajaero was detained without a legal warrant or justification. They believe this is an affront to democratic principles and an attempt to silence workers’ voices.
They have demand the release of Ajaero’s by midnight on Monday. They also want the government to reverse the recent petrol price hike to N617/litre and implement the new National Minimum Wage.
The NLC has called an emergency meeting to take further action against the government’s actions. They have also put their affiliates and allies on high alert, warning that they will not stand by while workers’ rights are trampled upon.
The NLC has condemned Ajaero’s detention as “brazen and illegal”, and has reaffirmed its commitment to defending workers’ rights and opposing oppression.
