Officials from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in Jordan, which oversees Iraq, have successfully intervened to facilitate the return of 28-year-old Eniola Isaac, a Nigerian woman trafficked to Iraq.
Isaac, who had been promised a better life in Iraq, instead faced severe abuse, including physical assault and mistreatment by her employer. After enduring these harsh conditions, she appealed to Nigerian authorities for assistance in returning home.
In an update shared on the commission’s official X.com page on Thursday, NiDCOM confirmed that Isaac’s case highlights the growing concern about human trafficking of Nigerians to Iraq under false pretenses.
“Eniola Isaac, a 28-year-old Nigerian woman trafficked to Iraq, will return to Nigeria on January 3rd, thanks to the efforts of the Nigerian mission in Jordan,” the commission stated.

Additionally, NiDCOM reported that the death of another Nigerian who had gone to Iraq as a caregiver is under investigation. The Nigerian government has demanded an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The commission also issued a warning about the increasing number of deceptive agents targeting young Nigerian women, luring them to Iraq with fraudulent promises. These women often find themselves trapped in dangerous situations, including slavery and prostitution.
