The Anambra State Police Command has announced the recovery of the car belonging to Justice Azuka, the state lawmaker representing Onitsha North Constituency, who was abducted on Tuesday night. Azuka was reportedly kidnapped along Ugwunapampa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, while returning home.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development on Thursday, noting that the vehicle was discovered abandoned at Upper Iweka Road during an ongoing rescue operation.
“Following an intense ongoing operation, police operatives attached to the Inland Town Division have recovered the vehicle of Mr. Justice Azuka. Efforts are being intensified to rescue the Honourable member and apprehend his abductors,” Ikenga stated.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has directed the rescue team to redouble their efforts to locate and safely recover the lawmaker.
Justice Azuka, a member of the Labour Party, recently regained his mandate after the court nullified the victory of his rival, Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party, in the 2023 election.
The abduction has sparked concern among residents and political observers, with many urging authorities to act swiftly to ensure Azuka’s safe return.
