Troops in Zamfara State have successfully eliminated more than 25 terrorists, with 18 others injured during a military operation aimed at curbing criminal activities in the North-Western region.
The operation, known as Operation Fansan Yamma, was carried out by troops from Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West.
Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, confirmed the military action on Sunday.
The terrorists were neutralized on January 10 in the Fakai area of Shinkafi Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara. Key camps belonging to notorious figures, including Bello Turji and Mallam Ila, were targeted, resulting in the deaths of over 25 terrorists and leaving more than 18 others injured by gunfire.
“The operation delivered a significant blow to the terrorist network,” Abdullahi stated.
In addition to the deaths, seven individuals who had been kidnapped by the terrorists managed to escape from their captors’ camps during the operation.
The troops were supported by the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma, enhancing the effectiveness of the operation.
Abdullahi assured that Operation Fansan Yamma would continue to target and eliminate terrorist threats in the region.
“We urge all terrorist leaders and their affiliates to surrender and abandon violence, as our troops remain determined to eradicate these threats,” he added. “We are committed to restoring peace and security in the affected areas.”
