Troops from the 5 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have neutralized members of a criminal gang linked to the killing of four soldiers and the abduction of two Korean expatriates in Kalaogbokolo, Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The tragic incident occurred on December 12, 2023, targeting staff of Daewoo Company. The operation’s success was revealed in a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Division.
Acting on credible intelligence, the military executed a strategic cordon-and-search operation, uncovering a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. Items recovered included:
- One AK-47 rifle
- One Fabrique Nationale rifle
- One pump-action gun
- Two locally made rifles
- Three AK-47 magazines
- One FN magazine
- Three rounds of 7.62mm (Special)
- 13 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO)
During the operation, two members of the gang were apprehended. However, while being transported for further investigation, the suspects attempted to escape into the bush. Following a pursuit, they were neutralized.
The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to holding criminals accountable for their actions, emphasizing that perpetrators of such heinous crimes would face justice, no matter how long it takes.
The Division also urged the public to provide actionable intelligence to enhance ongoing security efforts, reaffirming its dedication to protecting lives and property in the region.
“This successful operation demonstrates the military’s determination to bring violent offenders to justice and restore peace in affected communities,” the statement read.
