The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has denied allegations that it is selling petroleum products from the newly reopened Port-Harcourt refinery to oil marketers.
Earlier on Wednesday, SaharaReporters reported that the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) claimed the Port-Harcourt refinery was supplying products to marketers at a rate of N1045 per litre.
However, NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye issued a statement late Wednesday, rejecting these claims. He clarified that the company had not begun bulk sales to other marketers and that its purchase portal had not yet been opened as final preparations were still underway.
Soneye further explained that the current stock of products being sold includes fees and levies and was procured from the Dangote Refinery, not the Port-Harcourt facility.
He emphasized that, at this stage, only NNPCL’s retail outlets are receiving products from the Port-Harcourt refinery. “The products currently available are sourced from the Dangote Refinery, which includes NMDPRA fees. The Port-Harcourt refinery’s output is exclusively for our retail stations. Our prices are adjusted periodically as necessary,” he added.
