The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the nominees for the 2024 Young Player of the Year award, with no Nigerian players making the cut for the prestigious ten-man list.
The shortlist is filled with rising stars from across Africa, with Ivory Coast notably represented by Oumar Diakite and Karim Konate. Cameroon’s Carlos Baleba and Ghana’s Abdul Aziz Issah are also among those recognised as the continent’s top young talents.
From North Africa, Morocco’s Bilal El Khannouss and Tunisia’s Amanallah Memmiche have made the list, while Equatorial Guinea’s Yankuba Minteh also secured a spot. Senegal’s duo, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Lamine Camara, underline the depth of talent emerging from the West African nation.
Morocco’s Eliesse Ben Seghir rounds off the lineup of standout talents for the award.
The absence of any Nigerian players is striking, given the country’s rich history of producing top-level young footballers. The CAF Awards 2024 will ultimately recognise one of these exceptional young athletes as Africa’s brightest football prospect.
