NSCDC Nabs Fake Civil Defence Officer in Anambra
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has successfully arrested a suspect impersonating a civil defence officer. The individual allegedly used the uniform to harass, extort, and engage in fraudulent activities against unsuspecting citizens in the state.
The suspect was presented to the public at the NSCDC command headquarters in Awka on Wednesday by the state commandant, Olatunde Maku. Maku cautioned citizens to remain vigilant and discerning when approached by anyone claiming to be a civil defence officer.
Detailing the circumstances of the arrest, Maku stated that on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at approximately 1:00 PM, operatives on routine patrol acted on intelligence regarding the suspect’s suspicious activities around Aroma, Awka.
“Acting on this information, the team sprang into action and apprehended the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Oche, a 55-year-old male from Agila Town in the Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, who was found dressed in an NSCDC uniform,” Maku explained.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Oche used his impersonation to intimidate and exploit innocent victims. Shockingly, he confessed to purchasing the NSCDC uniform from a second-hand clothing seller in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, highlighting the extent of his deceit.
In response, the State Commandant has directed the investigation and intelligence department to conduct a thorough inquiry to determine the source of the uniform and the motive behind Oche’s impersonation.
Maku further assured that the suspect will face legal action upon the conclusion of the investigation.
