Ahead of Saturday’s Ondo State governorship election, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa has instructed security agencies to collaborate with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to identify and apprehend individuals involved in “cash-for-vote” schemes.

During a courtesy visit to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Thursday, General Musa emphasized the armed forces’ commitment to ensuring a peaceful election. His visit was part of an operational tour to assess the preparedness of troops and other security agencies tasked with supporting the election.

Speaking at the Ondo State Government House, the CDS assured the governor of the military’s readiness to ensure a smooth and secure election. He also addressed commanders, commending their efforts in maintaining peace in the state and urging continued diligence.

The CDS reiterated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is the lead agency for the election, while security forces play a supportive role. He stressed the importance of fairness, respect for citizens, restraint, and impartiality during the election process.

Addressing concerns about vote-buying, the CDS directed security personnel to cooperate closely with the EFCC, urging them to report any instances of “cash-for-vote” activities to the appropriate authorities. “Election should not be a war. We must be fair to all and work together to respect and protect the rights of citizens,” he added.
