Victor Osimhen has expressed satisfaction with his choice to join Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, emphasizing that he was determined to make his own decision regarding his future.
Reflecting on his turbulent summer transfer saga, the Nigerian striker revealed that while Napoli was eager to offload him to Al-Ahli and Chelsea towards the end of the transfer window, he had other plans. Despite Chelsea being his preferred destination, Osimhen was not satisfied with their offer.
The 25-year-old explained that he had been ready to remain at Napoli for several more months, aiming for a move in the January transfer window. However, the opportunity to join Galatasaray provided him with a sense of relief.
“I was prepared to stay and wait for three or four months and then move in January, but I felt it was important to stay in control of my future,” Osimhen told Turkish media, including TRT Spor, during an interview at Galatasaray’s training center.
“It was crucial for me to stay because I didn’t get the move I really wanted. When I received the call from the Galatasaray coach, his vision for the season and his goals were very clear. I could see he had a strong plan, both as a coach and as a person. It made sense for me to join, especially with the quality players already here and the club’s high ambitions.”
Osimhen also highlighted how welcoming the Galatasaray environment has been, both for him and his family. “Coming to Istanbul, one of the world’s best cities, made the decision even easier. I’m very happy with my choice and eager to contribute to the team’s success,” he added. “Drogba also played here, and I believe there’s no better place for me to enjoy my football.”
The striker expressed gratitude to Galatasaray’s fans for their warm welcome and emphasized his desire to help the team. “I’m not the kind of player who puts myself above the team. My goal is to add to the quality we already have.”
Osimhen has had an impressive start to the season, scoring two goals and providing four assists in his first four matches with Galatasaray, before picking up an injury in the 3-3 draw against Kasimpasa. He celebrated his two goals in September alongside former Inter captain, Mauro Icardi, in a home game against Kasımpaşa.
