PDP Suspends Ex-National Secretary Amid Allegations of Anti-Party Conduct
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tsauri ‘A’ Ward Executive Committee has announced the suspension of Senator Umar Tsauri, the party’s former National Secretary, over allegations of anti-party behavior and other misconduct.
This was disclosed in a letter signed by the Ward Chairman, Alhaji Danjume Abubakar, which indicated that the suspension followed a meeting held on September 14. The suspension will remain in effect pending the conclusion of an investigation by a disciplinary panel set up to examine the allegations against Tsauri.
Senator Tsauri is accused of making statements against the national leadership of the party, engaging in actions that could tarnish the PDP’s image, and associating with groups that are seen as harmful to the party.
The ward committee, citing Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, noted that it has the authority to discipline members found guilty of misconduct.
In a statement, the committee urged PDP members to stay committed to the party’s values: “We must unite to strengthen the party and work towards winning elections and serving the people’s interests.”
Alhaji Lawal Audi-Yar’adua, the spokesperson for the PDP in Katsina State, confirmed receiving the suspension letter from Tsauri’s ward. He mentioned that a committee had been established to investigate the allegations and that the party would handle the matter according to its constitution, irrespective of the member’s position.
Senator Tsauri, in response, questioned the legality of the suspension, asserting that neither the ward nor the state chapter had the constitutional authority to suspend a former National Secretary without following proper procedures. He also stated that he had not been officially informed of the suspension, learning about it through social media.
“The party has procedures, and certain steps must be followed before action can be taken against a member,” Tsauri said.
