The Who’s Pete Townshend has shared his surprising take on Oasis’ upcoming 2025 reunion. Speaking with The Standard, Townshend revealed he’s not disappointed because he couldn’t secure a ticket to the high-demand event, but rather because he’s enjoyed the Gallagher brothers’ solo work since Oasis’ 2009 split. “I really like their solo albums,” he explained, voicing an appreciation that differs from his bandmate Roger Daltrey, who openly wished for an Oasis reunion back in 2022.

Oasis’ infamous breakup in 2009 was the result of years of personal and professional disputes between Liam and Noel Gallagher, culminating in a heated altercation before a scheduled performance at Rock en Seine in Paris. Noel later recounted that Liam had stormed into his dressing room wielding a guitar “like an axe,” nearly causing physical harm. Despite their fiery split, the two have maintained successful solo careers, performing with The Who on separate occasions: Noel joined the band for a benefit concert in 2017, while Liam toured with them in 2019.
The recently announced Oasis tour will take the reunited band to stadiums across North America and Europe, marking their first major tour in over a decade.
As for The Who, Townshend provided an encouraging update on his own band’s future. He shared that he recently met with Roger Daltrey, and the two have plans to work together next year, even though they don’t currently intend to release new music. Although Daltrey isn’t keen on recording, Townshend is hoping to change his mind, saying he might try to “bully him on that.”
For fans of both legendary British rock acts, it seems 2025 will be a year to look forward to.
