Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has lauded the resilience and dedication of lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi to the advancement of Nigeria.
In a tweet on Friday, Obi shared details of his visit to Farotimi, who recently returned home following his detention at a correctional facility in Ekiti.
The politician expressed delight at finding Farotimi in high spirits despite his recent challenges, praising him as a beacon of courage and perseverance.
“Since his release from the correctional center in Ekiti, I had not been able to visit him. It was heartening to see him in good spirits and even more inspiring to witness his steadfast commitment to the quest for a better Nigeria,” Obi wrote. “Dele Farotimi embodies bravery in adversity, consistently championing the cause of good governance in our nation.”
Obi also extended his best wishes to Farotimi, hoping for a productive and impactful year ahead as they continue working towards national development.
Farotimi’s release followed his arrest on December 3 by officers of the Ekiti State Police Command. The detention stemmed from allegations of defamation and cyberbullying leveled against him by legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Aare Afe Babalola.
The accusations were tied to claims made in Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System, a 116-page critique of the nation’s legal framework.
