Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2024 election, Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the recent ambush that resulted in the deaths of SuperSport TV crew members and a police officer in Anambra State.

Naija News reports that the tragic incident occurred along the Ihiala-Orlu Road on October 8, 2024. The victims were en route to cover the Nigeria vs. Libya Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when their vehicle was attacked by gunmen, leaving a cameraman, police officer, and bus driver dead.

Reacting on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi expressed deep concern over the worsening state of security in the country, stating that kidnappings and killings have become an alarming daily occurrence. He lamented that Nigerians are gradually losing track of the growing number of lives lost to violence.

“The relentless incidents of killings, kidnappings, and other violent crimes across Nigeria have worsened daily,” Obi stated. “Non-state actors continue to inflict pain and sorrow on families, with loved ones often kidnapped or killed in horrific ways.”

He condemned the tragic ambush in Anambra that claimed the lives of SuperSport crew members, who were on their way to Uyo for official duties. He also highlighted recent attacks in Benue State, where several people were killed and injured in a terror attack on Agatu Local Government Area.

Obi called on Nigerians to unite and demand greater security for the lives and property of all citizens. He offered condolences to the grieving families and prayed for a speedy recovery for those injured in these senseless acts of violence.
