The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspects accused of stealing two mobile phones, valued at approximately N2 million, from an accident victim on Governor’s Road in the Alausa area of Ikeja.
According to a statement released by the RRS on Thursday, the suspects—Isaiah Adegbenro (38), Edet Johnson (30), and Efe Sowemimo (28)—were apprehended on Wednesday night while allegedly searching the pockets and vehicle of the victim instead of offering assistance.
The statement explained that the accident occurred when the victim, driving a 2010 red Toyota Camry, lost control and collided with a road divider near the Adeyemi Bero section of Governor’s Road, Alausa. The suspects, who were nearby at the time, reportedly took advantage of the situation by rummaging through the victim’s belongings rather than providing help. The stolen items included an iPhone 15, valued at N1.3 million, and an iPhone 12, worth N620,000.
RRS operatives, patrolling the area, were alerted to the suspects’ actions and immediately pursued them. The officers successfully intercepted the suspects and recovered the stolen phones. Following the recovery, they assisted the accident victims by taking them to the hospital and clearing the vehicle from the scene.
The suspects have reportedly made significant confessions and are expected to be arraigned in court later today, following the orders of CSP Shola Jejeloye, Commander of the Rapid Response Squad.
