The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the murder of AbdulRazaq Ajani, a retired Controller of Works at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, who was killed on New Year’s Day in Ilorin.
The tragic incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Dele Gege Street, off Awolowo Road in the Tanke area, shortly after Mr. Ajani returned home with his wife and children from a trip to his hometown in Offa.
CCTV footage shows that four young men, estimated to be between 18 and 22 years old, casually entered Mr. Ajani’s compound moments after his arrival. The footage captures two of the attackers standing by the gate, with one drinking from a plastic bottle, while the other two walked into the compound.
Mr. Ajani, who had noticed the men from a sitting room in his ground-floor residence, went to the front door to speak with them. However, what appeared to be a brief conversation quickly escalated into violence, as the assailants attacked him with small axes.
The retired officer was brutally hacked while his family members watched in shock and horror. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the act, leaving the family and neighbors devastated.
The Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the murder on Friday but stated that no arrests had been made yet. She assured the public that detectives are working diligently to investigate the case.
Ejire-Adeyemi expressed condolences to the Ajani family, offering prayers for their comfort and the peaceful repose of Mr. Ajani’s soul. She assured the family that the perpetrators would be brought to justice, with the full force of the law applied.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
