Security operatives in Anambra State have arrested two individuals at a native doctor’s shrine in Uru, Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, for alleged involvement in armed robbery and kidnapping activities.

The arrests followed the testimony of a rescued kidnap victim, who was freed on Friday near Abagana Girls Secondary School. Acting on this information, a joint operation by the police and local vigilante groups raided the shrine.

The suspects, identified as Ikechukwu Okafor (30) and Nweze Chijindu (38), both natives of Abagana, were apprehended during the operation. Law enforcement recovered a pump-action firearm, the victim’s vehicle, ropes, horsewhips, and other incriminating materials. Two other suspects, Supuluchukwu Nweze and Sunday Nwakanze (30), remain at large, and a manhunt has been launched to locate them.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, the victim was lured by a phone call allegedly made by Sunday Nwakanze. He was then abducted at gunpoint, robbed of his belongings, and taken to the shrine, where he was restrained with ropes and gagged.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and are cooperating with the police in their investigation to track down the remaining members of the gang.

In a statement, SP Ikenga emphasized the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Anambra State, pledging that the investigation would continue to its conclusion.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of tackling crime in the region and the efforts of security forces to combat it.
