The Nigerian Police Force in Kebbi State has reported the death of one suspected armed robber and the arrest of another following a gun battle in a forest area within the state.
The incident occurred on December 9, 2024, around 5:00 PM when a joint team of police officers and vigilantes from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zogirma were on routine patrol along the Tilli/Durhella forest. During the patrol, they encountered two suspects, identified as Gaboje Alhaji Bello from Sabuwar Tunga village, Bunza LGA, and another individual. Upon being approached, the suspects fired at the officers, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
In the exchange, Gaboje Alhaji Bello was shot dead, while his accomplice, Wantude Alhaji Adure from Ilorin, Kwara State, was arrested. A locally-made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, CP Bello Sani, praised the officers for their courage in the confrontation with the armed robbers and urged them to continue their efforts in combating crime in the state. He reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Kebbi’s residents.
CP Sani has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and legal action.
