Politics: PDP Supporters Protest as APC Takes Lead in Edo Governorship Election
Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have staged a demonstration at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Benin City, protesting the ongoing results collation for the recent Edo State governorship election.
The protest came as preliminary results released by INEC indicated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was leading the race, heightening tensions among PDP members.
In a post shared by Channels TV on X, PDP supporters voiced concerns over alleged manipulation of the election results, claiming that the process was being skewed in favor of the APC.
As of now, INEC has taken a break after announcing the results from 16 out of the 18 local government areas in the state. So far, the APC has won in 10 local governments, while the PDP has claimed victory in six. The final two results are expected to be released by 5 p.m.
According to Naija News, the APC currently leads with 244,549 votes, followed by the PDP with 195,954 votes, while the Labour Party (LP) lags behind with 13,348 votes.
The situation remains tense as PDP supporters demand transparency in the collation process, insisting that the final results should truly reflect the people’s choice.
