Musical artist Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Primeboy, has filed a lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force, alleging violations of his fundamental human rights. The lawsuit comes after the Lagos State Police Command declared him wanted on October 4, 2023, for failing to respond to a police invitation linked to the investigation into the death of fellow artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
According to reports from PUNCH Metro, Primeboy’s legal representative, Akinpelu Ogunbona, confirmed that the suit was filed on October 11 in the Federal High Court located in Ikoyi, Lagos. In his filing, Primeboy seeks various remedies, including the removal of his name from the police wanted list and a declaration that the police gazette bulletin issued by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) is a violation of his dignity as a human being.
“Primeboy has sued the police via an originating motion. He is asking the court for several reliefs, including the delisting of his name from the wanted list,” Ogunbona stated.
The controversy surrounding Primeboy intensified following Mohbad’s death on September 12 at the age of 27. Since then, Primeboy has been at the center of the investigation, which has drawn significant public attention and debate on social media. He voluntarily presented himself to the police shortly after the declaration of his wanted status.
The Lagos State Police Command established a special 13-man investigation team on September 18 to look into Mohbad’s death, which led to the arrests of notable figures, including Naira Marley, the founder of Marlian Music, from which Mohbad departed in February 2022, and Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry.
To aid the investigation, Mohbad’s body was exhumed for autopsy on September 21, 2023, in a bid to clarify the circumstances surrounding his death.
