A dispute over a property on Nsikak Eduok Road in Uyo has escalated into alleged vandalism, with members of the New Kingdom Ministry reportedly attacking a worship center belonging to the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS).
The tension stems from a ruling by Hon. Justice Joy Unwana of the Akwa Ibom State High Court on October 17, 2024, which affirmed that the property in question legally belongs to BCS. New Kingdom Ministry has rejected the judgment, with one of its officials, Sammy Effiok, declaring the ruling flawed and insisting on reclaiming the property.
In response to the alleged invasion, BCS has urged the public to disregard misleading videos circulating online. The organization stated that the videos falsely imply that its headquarters in Calabar was under attack.
During a press briefing on November 16, 2024, BCS spokesperson Amah Williams accused the New Kingdom Ministry of hiring thugs to vandalize the BCS worship center in defiance of the court’s decision.
Williams outlined the legal background, stating, “The property has been the subject of litigation. The High Court dismissed New Kingdom Ministry’s application, deeming it baseless, and awarded damages of N100,000 to each of the 12 respondents. Instead of seeking legal redress, the New Kingdom Ministry resorted to illegal actions by orchestrating an attack on our worship center, directly violating the court’s ruling.”
He further criticized the actions captured in the viral video, describing them as evidence of a lack of spiritual guidance. “Their behavior reflects ignorance of the scriptures and a failure to act in accordance with the Holy Spirit,” Williams added.
Reaffirming BCS’s commitment to peace and the rule of law, Williams stressed that they would not engage in a struggle over what the court has already declared as rightfully theirs. “We trust the legal system to address this matter appropriately,” he concluded.
The situation remains tense, with the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star urging calm while awaiting further legal and official interventions.
