Controversy surrounds social critic Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), after he alleged that hackers stole N180 million from his NGO account following a breach of his website.
In October, several Nigerians, including music producer Don Jazzy, donated significant sums to Otse’s newly launched NGO, with Don Jazzy contributing N100 million. However, two months after the NGO’s launch, VDM claimed in an Instagram post that only N20 million remains in the account, with N180 million gone.
In a video shared on Instagram, Otse said, “I have to be honest with you. Over the past few days, I haven’t been myself. Someone hacked into the NGO’s website, and I don’t know how it happened. N180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve traced the hacker, and we’re on our way to Jos. One person has been arrested, and the account has been locked with a Post No Debit status. The account now holds N20 million.”
However, many Nigerians are raising questions about the situation. One critic, Pamilerin Adegoke, expressed confusion over the claim, asking, “VeryDarkMan said N160 million was stolen after his NGO site was hacked. Yet today, we heard he bought a Mercedes Benz AMG. My question is: was the money in the NGO’s bank account or on the website? Please explain like you’re speaking to a Primary 2 student.”
