Serie A: Capello Warns Atalanta Against Selling Lookman
AC Milan former manager Fabio Capello cautioned Atalanta that offloading Ademola Lookman could seriously hinder their quest for silverware this season.
The 27-year-old winger played a crucial role in Atalanta’s success, scoring a hat-trick in their 3-0 triumph over Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final last May. For two consecutive seasons, Lookman has been recognized as Atalanta’s standout player.
Recently, Lookman has been linked with potential moves to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. His decision to boycott training earlier this week, leading to his absence from Atalanta’s Serie A match against Lecce on Monday, has only fueled the transfer rumors.
Despite the speculation, Lookman resumed training on Thursday and is expected to be part of the squad for this weekend’s game against Torino.
Capello stressed the importance of keeping Lookman and other key players. “If Koopmeiners and Lookman leave after injuries to Scamacca and Scalvini, it would be tough for Gasperini,” Capello told *La Gazzetta dello Sport*.
