Vice President Kashim Shettima and Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State are currently in Sweden on a strategic mission to explore sustainable transportation innovations and advancements in telecommunications that could benefit Nigeria.
In a statement released in Jos on Saturday by Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Mutfwang, it was confirmed that the two officials, along with a delegation of other top Nigerian government figures, are on a two-day official visit to Sweden. The aim of the visit is to seek partnerships that will help modernize Nigeria’s transportation and telecommunications sectors.
The Nigerian team held meetings with industry leaders at Scania and Ericsson, two globally recognized companies with the potential to transform Nigeria’s infrastructure. Scania, renowned for its innovations in green transport solutions, discussed the prospect of partnering with Nigeria to implement biofuel-powered systems in the country’s transport sector. This aligns with Scania’s global reputation as a leader in heavy-duty truck and bus manufacturing, with a focus on sustainable technologies.
Fredrik Wijkander, a representative of Scania Group, led the Nigerian delegation on a tour of the company’s facilities in Södertälje, where he emphasized how Scania’s biofuel technologies could contribute to transforming Nigeria’s transport infrastructure.
The vice president also led the delegation on a visit to Ericsson, where high-level discussions took place regarding the future of Nigeria’s digital landscape. Welcomed by Patrick Johansson, Ericsson’s Senior Vice President and Head of Middle East and Africa, and Peter Olusoji Ogundele, Head of Ericsson Nigeria, the talks focused on developing strategic partnerships to enhance Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, particularly through the deployment of 5G technology.
One of the key outcomes of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nigeria and Ericsson, marking a critical step toward the rollout of 5G across key sectors in the country. This partnership is expected to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation and foster economic growth through advanced communication solutions.
By engaging with industry leaders from these global companies, Nigeria is aiming to modernize its transport and telecom sectors, enhance digital infrastructure, and promote sustainable development.
