The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the Enugu State Police Command to identify and present six officers captured in a viral video assaulting a motorist over an alleged refusal to pay a N100 bribe.
The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage, was condemned by Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi as “unacceptable and disgraceful.” He called for immediate action against the officers involved.
The video, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @spoiltkid, shows one officer at a checkpoint striking the driver on the back of the head. The situation escalated when the driver, heading toward his parked vehicle, was again attacked by the same officer, who began kicking him.
When the driver questioned the aggression, four additional officers joined in and viciously assaulted him. Passengers in the vehicle, reportedly Christian Girls in Training, recorded the incident and were heard shouting in disapproval.
Following the assault, the officers reportedly dragged the driver to their station, where the beating continued until he was left unconscious, according to reports shared online.
While the exact location of the incident remains unconfirmed, the video’s uploader alleged that the attack stemmed from the driver’s refusal to pay a N100 bribe.
@spoiltkid described the scene, writing: “Nigeria Police Force Personnel Captured on Camera Brutalizing Driver of Christian Girls in Training Over N100 in Enugu.”
In response to the footage, ACP Adejobi tweeted: “This is not acceptable. @Enugu_PoliceNg @PoliceNG_CRU @PoliceNG, produce these men immediately for necessary action. Thanks.”
The incident has reignited public demands for systemic reforms in the Nigeria Police Force to address issues of corruption, brutality, and unprofessional conduct.
This is not acceptable. @Enugu_PoliceNg @PoliceNG_CRU @PoliceNG produce these men immediately for necessary action. Thanks. https://t.co/PiDAKfphqK
