Singer and social media personality Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has reportedly been held in police custody in Abuja following days of being declared missing.
Human rights activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju revealed this development on Tuesday through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Previously, social media influencer Constance Nwogu raised concerns about Speed Darlington’s sudden disappearance. According to Adeyanju, Darlington, also known as Akpi, was arrested in Lagos last Friday in connection with a petition filed by award-winning artist Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy. Darlington was then transferred to Abuja, where he remains in detention.
Adeyanju did not provide further details about the content of the petition but stated, “We just spent the last 30 minutes with Speed Darlington. He explained how he was arrested in Lagos last Friday, moved around, and eventually brought to Abuja, where he has been held in detention. The petition against him was filed by Burna Boy, which we can confirm.”
Meanwhile, Darlington’s mother, identified as Miss Queen, has publicly pleaded for Burna Boy’s forgiveness. In an emotional video posted on Instagram, she expressed her distress, explaining that her son’s security personnel informed her that Burna Boy and his associates came to his home and took him away.
She appealed directly to Burna Boy, saying, “Good day everyone. My name is Mrs. Queen, I am Darlington’s mother. I’ve just been informed that my son is missing. His gateman told us that there was a video Darlington posted online about Burna Boy, and after that, Burna Boy and his team came to take him. Darlington is my only son. Please, I am begging you, Burna Boy, to have mercy and forgive him. I’m on my knees, pleading.”
She continued her appeal, asking Darlington’s fans and Nigerians at large to help plead for his release. “I am his biological mother, and I am asking for forgiveness on his behalf. Burna Boy, please forgive my son and release him.”
