Speed Darlington in Police Custody, Says Deji Adeyanju
Activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has disclosed that musician and social media personality, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, is currently in police custody in Abuja.
Adeyanju confirmed that Speed Darlington, also called Akpi, was apprehended in Lagos last Friday and later transferred to Abuja, where he has been held ever since. The arrest reportedly follows a formal complaint lodged by Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy, though specific details of the complaint remain unclear.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Adeyanju wrote, “We just spent 30 minutes with Speed Darlington, who explained how he was arrested in Lagos last Friday, moved between locations, and eventually brought to Abuja, where he’s been detained. The petition against him was filed by Burna Boy, as we can confirm.”
Previously, social media influencer Constance Nwogu raised concerns about Speed Darlington’s whereabouts, noting that he had been unreachable for several days. In a post shared on Monday, Nwogu said, “It has come to our attention that Speed Darlington (Akpi) has been missing for three days now.”
Nwogu highlighted that Speed Darlington’s last YouTube post was on October 4, while his Instagram page hadn’t been updated in nearly a month, a departure from his usual frequent activity on social media.
She speculated that his disappearance could be connected to a video in which Speed Darlington questioned Burna Boy’s Grammy win and made certain claims involving musician Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy.
On Tuesday, Burna Boy wrote “Who’s missing?” in a cryptic post on X, following the reports of Speed Darlington’s disappearance. While it’s unclear whom Burna Boy was referring to, Nwogu urged the public to share any information regarding Speed Darlington’s situation.
The police have not yet provided any official updates on the case at the time of this report.
