The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that its team has located the fault responsible for the recent power outage affecting parts of the North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions. The outage, which occurred on Monday, was linked to the tripping of the 330-kilovolt (kV) Ugwuaji-Apir double circuit transmission lines.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the fault was pinpointed in the Igumale area of Benue State. TCN’s linesmen discovered the problem around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, identifying the fault as a snapped 330kV transmission line in a swampy section of the forest.
Mbah explained that the damaged portion of the line covers one span, and arrangements are already being made to mobilize the necessary equipment and materials to commence repairs. She added that preparations to move a bulldozer and other essential tools from TCN’s Enugu regional office are underway due to the challenging terrain. A Hiab vehicle will also be transported to the site to assist in tensioning the transmission line.
Efforts to determine the cause of the outage had previously been unsuccessful, but the fault was finally identified on Wednesday evening. TCN has reassured the public of its commitment to resolving the issue promptly, with work expected to begin on Thursday.
Mbah also expressed appreciation to both the government and affected electricity consumers for their patience during the disruption, promising swift action to restore power.
