Erik ten Hag has dismissed rumors about his potential sacking, describing them as “fairy tales and lies” created by the media. Despite mounting pressure following Manchester United’s worst start to a top-flight season since 1989-90, the Dutch manager insists that he is not in danger of losing his job. Ahead of Saturday’s match against Brentford, Ten Hag reiterated that he retains the backing of the club’s hierarchy, including co-owner Jim Ratcliffe.

United currently sit 14th in the Premier League, having won only two of their seven league games this season. Their poor form has fueled speculation about Ten Hag’s future, with Brentford manager Thomas Frank even being linked as a potential replacement. A loss to Brentford would further intensify scrutiny on Ten Hag, especially with upcoming games against José Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the Europa League and West Ham in the Premier League.

However, Ten Hag remains confident about the club’s internal stability. “There is noise from the media, but inside the club, it’s quiet,” he said. He acknowledged United’s struggles but insisted that the team remains committed to their long-term plan and is working on turning things around.

United finished eighth in the Premier League last season, triggering an internal review led by Ratcliffe, but Ten Hag signed a new contract during the off-season, which was seen as a vote of confidence. His trophy haul includes a League Cup win in his first season and a surprise FA Cup triumph against Manchester City, which momentarily saved his position.

Despite his past successes, Ten Hag faces criticism for the team’s inconsistency and lack of attacking sharpness, with only five goals scored in seven league matches. Former United assistant coach Benni McCarthy has added to the scrutiny, highlighting the team’s failure to replicate their training ground performances in matches.

Ten Hag acknowledged the team’s lack of cutting edge, saying, “We have to improve entering the final third and into the box. Now we have to take the most important step.” Nonetheless, he remains convinced that United can overcome their current challenges and return to success.
