Thiago Motta: ‘Juventus Takes Risks, But It’s Worth It’
Thiago Motta, Juventus coach, highlighted the importance of taking risks in their 3-0 victory over Verona, emphasizing how these risks are key to opening up defenses. Juventus is currently the only Serie A team with a perfect record, having scored six goals and conceded none in their first two matches.
In the match against Verona, Dusan Vlahovic scored twice, with 21-year-old Nicolò Savona adding another goal on his full debut. Motta praised the team’s pressing strategy, stating, “Pressing the opponents means taking a risk, because you open up spaces, but it is worth it to win the ball back high up the field and go straight towards goal.”
Motta also pointed out the importance of team balance, noting that even the strikers contribute to defensive movements, helping to maintain pressure and quickly regain possession.
The coach is also known for promoting young talent. Following the success of Samuel Mbangula last week, Savona impressed by scoring on his debut. Motta acknowledged their natural talent, saying, “These are lads with great talent, great quality… when they can play like this, you see the difference.”
Looking ahead, Juventus faces a significant challenge against Roma on September 1, with Motta expressing confidence in his team’s ability to perform well at home. “We are on our home turf and will try to do our best, along with our fans, to get the result we want,” he concluded.
