Tinubu Administration Hikes Passport Fees, Full Details Revealed
The administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an increase in the fees for Nigerian passports, effective from September 1, 2024.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) spokesperson, DCI Kenneth Udo, announced this change in a statement on Wednesday, explaining that the adjustment aims to uphold the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, as reported by *Daily Trust*. According to the revised fees, the cost of a 32-page passport booklet with a 5-year validity will rise from Thirty-five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00) to Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00). Similarly, the 64-page booklet with a 10-year validity will increase from Seventy Thousand Naira (N70,000.00) to One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00). However, the fees for passports issued abroad will remain unchanged.
The NIS acknowledged the potential inconvenience this increase might cause for applicants, but reassured Nigerians of their ongoing commitment to transparency and delivering quality services, according to *The Cable*.
