Simone Inzaghi suggested on Tuesday that he may rest some of Inter Milan’s key players for their Champions League showdown with Arsenal, as they prepare for a crucial Serie A clash against league leaders Napoli this weekend.

Inter heads into Wednesday’s game at the San Siro with almost a complete lineup available. However, the tight match schedule and the opportunity to claim the top spot in Italy on Sunday could lead to rotation, with players like Marcus Thuram, Alessandro Bastoni, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan potentially on the bench.

“After each of our Champions League games, we’ve faced major matches against teams like Milan, Juventus, and Napoli,” Inzaghi explained. “Inter alone has a difficult fixture immediately following this week’s European games.”

He noted that the squad seemed to be recovering well after their recent 1-0 win over Venezia. “We’ll assess things and try to select the lineup that’s best prepared to dominate tomorrow’s game,” Inzaghi added.

When asked about the new Champions League format, Inzaghi acknowledged the added challenge of managing extra matches and facing a broader range of opponents.

Currently, Inter holds the seventh position in the revamped standings, which has a single league table where the top eight progress directly to the last 16. However, they are tied with Arsenal and several other teams on seven points.

“In the previous format, we only had to prepare for three teams, which was simpler,” Inzaghi said. “Now, every game counts in a tighter table where one goal could shift you up or down. It may be more exciting, but for us, it’s certainly more challenging.”
