UK-Based Nigerian Man Cancels Wedding Over N3.5m Bride Price List

A Nigerian man living in the United Kingdom has called off his plans to marry his fiancée after her family presented a bride price list worth approximately N3.5 million.

According to Princess Adeola, a social media user who shared the story on her X handle, the man had been deeply committed to the relationship despite the challenges of long-distance dating. However, the extensive demands on the bride price list, which included cash, livestock, clothing, and drinks for various family members, proved to be too much for him.

The man, who had intended to bring his fiancée to the UK and support her education, was disheartened to find that she defended her family’s expectations, citing economic hardships in Nigeria. He expressed frustration, comparing the demands to “selling a child” and questioning how a marriage could thrive under such financial pressure.

Princess Adeola wrote:

“There’s a guy on my platform who met a lady in Nigeria while living in the UK. Despite the difficulties of maintaining a long-distance relationship, he stayed committed. Recently, he reached out to me heartbroken after receiving a bride price list from her family totaling N3.5 million.”

The man reportedly shared his disappointment over the financial burden and the lack of support from his fiancée, saying he felt undervalued despite his plans to secure a future for her abroad.

“He told me he’s no longer interested and plans to block her. Although heartbroken, he’s decided to move on, leaving her family to reflect on their choices,” Adeola added.
