In a recent emotional recollection, popular figure VDM opened up about his harrowing experience during the October 2020 #EndSARS protests, where he narrowly escaped death while defending the cause. In his statement, VDM reflected on how he has always been at the forefront of the struggle for Nigeria’s betterment, standing alongside fellow protesters in their fight against police brutality and oppression.
Recalling the events of October 18, 2020, VDM shared how, during a protest on Berger Bridge in Lagos, a group of armed thugs descended upon the scene, attacking cars and endangering lives. With nothing but a stick for defense, VDM recounted how he courageously leaped from the bridge to confront the attackers, unaware that he was alone in the initial charge.
“Maybe because I wasn’t as known then,” he said, adding, “but I’ve always joined my mates to stand against oppression.”

During the confrontation, VDM explained how he fought to defend himself when a long dagger was thrust at his face. Fortunately, he escaped serious injury, which he credited to divine intervention. His bravery soon inspired others to join the fray, and together, they managed to drive the attackers away.
The aftermath of that day left him with a shard of glass lodged in his index finger, which he deliberately carried for over two years as a constant reminder of the #EndSARS movement and the struggle for a better Nigeria. He only had it removed recently due to the risk of infection.
“It was never done for clout,” VDM stressed, reflecting on the depth of his patriotism. “I’ve been dropping my blood for this country, long before the fame. There’s nobody as patriotic as I am in Nigeria. On God.”
As the #EndSARS movement remains a significant marker in Nigeria’s history, VDM’s account serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by many during that tumultuous period. His story, like many others, reflects the determination of a generation committed to fighting for justice and accountability in Nigeria.
