Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface took to social media early Monday, October 14, to express his frustration over the team’s treatment in Libya.

Boniface revealed that he and his teammates had been stuck at the airport for nearly 13 hours, with no access to food, Wi-Fi, or a place to rest. He voiced his disappointment, stating, “Been at the airport for almost 13 hours no food no wifi no where to sleep. African we can do better @caf,” and urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to intervene.

The incident follows threats made by Libyan officials to disrupt the Nigerian team’s travel ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier return leg in Benina.

The Nigerian team’s flight, intended to take them to Benghazi, was diverted to a different city, leaving the players stranded at Al Abraq airport for several hours. Video footage shared on Sunday showed the Super Eagles and officials attempting to address the situation in the airport.

The Super Eagles are set to face the Mediterranean Knights, who sit at the bottom of the table, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at a stadium in Benina, located 19 kilometers from Benghazi.
