Students at the Schools of Basic Nursing and Midwifery in Minna, Niger State, are voicing their outrage after being evicted from their hostels amid ongoing renovations, with many claiming the action was sudden and poorly managed.
🎥 A video circulating online shows personal belongings—mattresses, bags, and school materials—scattered outside the hostel, while distressed students express frustration over the abrupt removal. “They’re throwing us out because of renovation… and even spoiling our things,” one student is heard saying.

The eviction comes as part of a hostel renovation project initiated by the school management. According to Nurse Aishatu, the School’s Director of Midwifery, the decision followed earlier consultations where students reportedly chose which block they preferred for repairs.
“There are three hostel blocks, and all are in bad shape,” she said. “The students were asked to pick one for renovation, and they did.”
She further clarified that only around 50 students had paid the N10,000 accommodation fee, which is now being used to fund the renovation. The school operates without government funding and relies on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for maintenance.
Despite claims of short notice, Nurse Aishatu stated that students were informed three weeks in advance. She also explained that alternative arrangements were provided for students who had paid their hostel fees.
The situation escalated when a plumber arrived to begin work and required students to completely vacate the premises for safety. Some confusion reportedly arose when a student tried to re-enter the building during the plumbing work.
Efforts by the Student Union Government (SUG) and the Director of Student Affairs are currently underway to provide temporary shelter for the affected students.
This incident adds to growing concerns about the state of infrastructure in Nigeria’s educational institutions and how students are impacted by mismanaged transitions.
