LOS ANGELES — Mark Vientos delivered a crucial moment in the National League Championship Series, crushing a grand slam that helped propel the Mets to an early 6-0 lead over the Dodgers in Game 2 at Dodger Stadium.
Vientos, who had struggled in his previous at-bats, bounced back emphatically. After going hitless with three strikeouts on Sunday and lining out in his first plate appearance on Monday, the 24-year-old launched a grand slam in the second inning. The Dodgers had intentionally walked Francisco Lindor to load the bases with two outs, setting up Vientos’ at-bat against Dodgers reliever Landon Knack.
Vientos worked a full count before connecting on a 95.1 mph fastball, sending the ball 391 feet over the right-center-field wall, with an exit velocity of 102.3 mph according to Statcast. The blast marked the third grand slam in Mets postseason history, following in the footsteps of Francisco Lindor (2024 NLDS Game 4) and Edgardo Alfonzo (1999 NLDS Game 1).
With the slam, Vientos now ties Pete Alonso for the team lead in home runs this postseason (three) and leads the club in RBIs with 11. The Mets became the 13th team in MLB history to hit multiple grand slams in the same postseason, adding another chapter to their postseason run.
