In the opening round of the 2024-25 Copa del Rey on Tuesday, Villarreal, Rayo Vallecano, Real Valladolid, and Deportivo Alavés advanced with strong performances, securing wins over Poblense (1-6), Villamuriel (0-5), Astur (1-4), and Compostela (0-1), respectively.
At the Nou Camp in Sa Pobla, Villarreal displayed dominance early, with Ramón Terrats opening the scoring and Ayoze Pérez netting a first-half hat-trick. Pau Cabanes added another goal, bringing the first-half tally to 5-0. In the second half, Pape Gueye scored, and Aitor Pons managed a consolation goal for Poblense.
Rayo Vallecano’s visit to the Rafael Vázquez Sedano Stadium in Villamuriel de Cerrato ended in a comprehensive 0-5 victory. Etienne Eto’o, son of football legend Samuel Eto’o, made his first-team debut and scored one of Rayo’s five goals. Raúl de Tomás added a brace, while Óscar Trejo and Sergi Guardiola rounded off the scoring.
Real Valladolid overcame Astur in Oviedo, winning 1-4. A goal from Juanmi Latasa and an own goal by Astur gave Valladolid a 0-2 lead at halftime. Although Robi reduced the deficit for Astur in the second half, Kike Pérez and Víctor Meseguer scored to ensure Valladolid’s progression.
Deportivo Alavés faced a tougher challenge against Compostela at Estadio Vero Boquete in San Lázaro, narrowly winning 0-1. Kike Vidal’s own goal proved decisive for Alavés.
Elsewhere, Real Racing Club de Santander edged out Lanzarote in a high-scoring 3-4 duel, while Real Zaragoza defeated L’Hospitalet 1-5. Cádiz advanced past Real Jaén with a 0-3 victory, and Ourense beat Guijuelo 1-2.
