A young man, identified as Oyeme Eguari, was reportedly killed in a suspected cult-related attack in Abbi, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The tragic incident occurred during a New Year’s Eve crossover celebration on December 31, 2024, casting a somber tone over the festivities in the community.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victim, believed to be in his 20s, was attacked by suspected members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity while at a beer parlour on Ejakita Street.
“He was enjoying time with friends when members of the Vikings Confraternity arrived at the venue and shot him,” a community source disclosed. The group has allegedly been linked to numerous violent crimes in the area, including armed robbery, murder, drug trafficking, and other serious offenses.
The source appealed for immediate intervention to address the escalating violence. “We urge the Delta State Government and human rights organizations to bring this situation to the attention of the state’s Commissioner of Police to prevent further killings,” the source stated.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and shared updates on the ongoing investigation. “Yes, it’s confirmed. Four suspects have been arrested and handed over to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU),” he said.
The community has called for increased security measures and a comprehensive approach to tackling cult-related violence in the region.
